Turning Loss Into Purpose

A Deeply Personal Mission

Welcome to Gold Spark Studio, a place for ideas, inspiration and purposeful action. Gold Spark Studio is a heartfelt tribute to my sons, Graham and Spencer, whose initials are embedded in its name as a lasting dedication. "Gold" represents the yield from a transformation of pain into purpose--the alchemical process of turning grief into something profoundly meaningful. "Spark" represents the passion, ideas, and drive that ignite and fuel change, serving as a catalyst for progress and hope. My mission is to serve a higher calling, to honor those who have passed and to help others like them. Here we utilize our unique talents and abilities and insights from experience. My journey has been shaped by profound personal loss and that fuels my unwavering passion to create meaningful change. No mother or father should lose their sons and daughters to addiction. I lost Graham at 17 and Spencer at 24, both casualties to the addiction crisis. They are the spirits that guide my hand as I manifest good for others and work tirelessly to ensure their deaths were not in vain.

This space is a hub for all my work—an intersection of ideas, strategies, and creativity. Here, you’ll find information on SPENCER’s Law (Safe, Person-centered, Evidentiary, Needs-based Care for Effective Recovery), resources for recovery advocacy, musings on systemic change, and glimpses into my creative work. Together, let’s imagine a brighter future and work together to make it happen.

I am a mission-driven advocate, strategist, and communicator with a Master's in Policy from Columbia University and decades of experience in private and nonprofit sectors. Affected by the personal loss of my two sons, I have channeled my grief into advocacy and leadership in the opioid and addiction crisis. I specialize in strategy, policy development, and stakeholder engagement and have served in key roles, including Strategy & Communications Director for Herren Project and Co-chair of the Policy and Advocacy Committee for Boulder County's Substance Use Advisory Group. My work combines lived experience with professional insight, driving innovative solutions and meaningful change.
